                                                    LIVING IN DENİZLİ

This video is an introductory film of Denizli. In the beginning, it tells about Denizli's uniqueness in terms of its historical   heritage, wonderful nature and developing industry which grows towards the world. It says that Denizli has a deep-rooted history which regresses to B.C 5000, so it played hosts to Lydians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottoman Empire and as well as it is one of the most important tourism centers of Turkey, it is the economic giant of its region, the center of industry and trade and vision city of developments and changes. Then, it says that when the word 'Denizli' is uttered, people first think a unique beauty Pamukkale, the symbol of Denizli : rooster, its textile products and its hot spring waters. It also tells Denizli has a huge population which is nearly one million and 19 districts which have so many distinctive features and it ranks 13 among the Turkey economies and 9 among the Turkey industry with its exportation which increases two billion per year. Moreover, the video explains that it has become the textile center of the world and pioneers textile industry in the world with its AR-GE studies on textile and products in which technology and hand labour is combined. Then, it adds that it has a huge industrial estate and produce diffirent types of goods by making investments into a lot of industry branch and says that Denizli is such a shining star with regards to marble industry that it competes with the most famous marble centers of the world. Also, the video says it has such fertile soils that so many agricultural products can floruish in these soils. Then it continues with its livestock sector, greenhouse cultivation, and also its tourism sector with hot spring waters, Pamukkale, Hierapolis antique city, Laodikya and many other historical cities of Denizli.
I like this video so much as it handles nearly all aspects of Denizli and introduces it so good. In fact, I examine so many video about Denizli and I like most of them but of course I cannot put all, but I find this video above really efficient and sufficient to introduce Denizli to the world. All in all, I recommend you to visit Denizli; thereby, understand its features I mentioned above. Also, you should definitely see its beautiful places like Laodikya, Pamukkale, Hierapolis if you visit there. Enjoy it ! :)

                                                 GLOBAL WARMING

One of the biggest problems facing the world today is global warming. Many people believe that our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are heating the atmosphere, and this could be very dangerous for human life and the planet. Many problems such as rising sea level, changes in weather patterns or a negative effect on animal and planet life could result from global warming. However, there are several things we can do to deal with these problems. One answer is to stop making CO2. We can do this by switching from oil, coal and gas to renewable energy. If we can reduce global warming in this way, the temperature will not increase so much. A second solution is to plant more trees and stop deforestation. If we do these, we can reduce global warming at a great scale because trees absorb CO2 and produce oxygen, which is not a greenhouse gas. The third idea is to use less energy and recycle more products. If we use less energy and are more environmentally friendly, the earth's temperature may not rise too much. In conclusion, all solutions I mentioned above in the paragraph are sustainable to reduce global warming. Since making small changes now in the way we live means avoiding huuge changes in the future, it is essential to implement these solutions.

JOURNAL ENTRY 7 ( ARTICLE )

                                           I SURF, THEREFORE, I AM

The writer of the article entitled '' I Surf, Therefore, I am  '' indicates that surfing on the internet is not beneficial as children who use internet read fewer books. Besides, he says nobody knows if any particular ''fact'' is a dog. I partially agree with the writer since I think internet is beneficial because it enables people to reach more information about a lot of subjects such as social, political and culturel issues, and it may be harmful as everything we read on the internet may not be true, so it may mislead people. Firstly, the writer is right as surfing on the internet may be harmful since one who looks for a specific type of information cannot always find true and reliable data on the internet. Today, people all over the world use internet and it has so many users, so lots of people create a website and load lots of things which are true or not on it, and so one can find both true and wrong things about the topic s/he seeks. On the other hand, I disagree with the the writer because internet is beneficial as people who cannot afford to buy books can find huge amount of information on the internet related to the topic that they search for. Furthermore, people who have not enough time to read a whole book can read its summary on the internet instead of reading the whole book. Also, people can learn lots of thing from the videos on the internet such as cooking, painting, make up and so on. What is more, they reach the information faster. One can find lots of things as soon as s/he clicks the enter button, so it is not time-consuming to search something on the internet as it offers faster and wide range of information to the searchers. In short, internet has both beneficial and harmful sides. Therefore, people should use it carefully and properly.

JOURNAL ENTRY 6 ( MULTI-MEDIA OF THE ARTICLE )

                                           RAPPORT TALK AND REPORT TALK

Dr. Cheryl indicates that women generally talk to connect and get closer; on the other hand, guys usually talk for pragmatic reasons; they talk to get a solution. Namely, they talk to solve something finished or moving on. Then she explains her opinion about this topic with a few examples and then she makes suggestions both for men and women to understand each other properly. She suggests that men should answer something which is told by a woman with an interest by saying words like 'woovv' because when men do this, women feel the man is with her and he is connected with her, and so conversation goes well. After that, she continues with the suggestions for women. She says if a man tell a problem or a situation, he does not look for women to say like ''Oh honey that sounds tough...'' or something like that. However, if women think of the pragmatic side of it and say ''Would it be helpful...'' or like that, the man feel better and the conversation reaches its goal for men. Therefore, instead of just speaking women and men can reach an agreement or be connected while speaking in this way.
I like the video in terms of its informativeness as Dr. Cherly explains the general position of men and women in communication and then offers suggestions for both men and women. Here is a point that there is many a true word told by Dr. Cherly in this video, so I find it very beneficial for people since it helps them develop a healthy communication.
JOURNAL ENTRY 6 ( ARTICLE )

                                      RAPPORT TALK AND REPORT TALK

In the article '' Raport talk and report talk'' Deborah Tannen indicates that while women feel comfortable doing 'private speaking', men feel comfortable doing 'public speaking' ; that is, men mostly talk for information whereas women talk for interaction. I agree with the writer since it is obvious that women talk in such a way to express everything they have in their mind that even little details of a topic are worth for them to say while men do not take notice of these details at all. Talk is an essential complementary element for the process of making connections for girls' friendship in youth. For instance, they share secrets. relate experiences, reveal problems and discuss options and these are necessary for their development. On the other hand, boys generally take another approach to friendship in their youth. Theirs is different, but not less profound. Their less talking or their result oriented talking does not mean their relationship is weaker than that of girls. Contrary to girls, buddy groups of boys tend to be larger and focusing on activities rather than conversation. This differentiation between boys and girls in youth leads to dissimilar communication styles in adulthood. That is, males remain action-oriented; their goal of communication is to achieve something. As for women, they communicate through dialogue, discussing choices, problems and emotions in their adulthood, too. All in all, we can say that men's and women's perception of communication differ from each other and maybe most of the problems resulting from misunderstanding each other or the conflicts between them stem from these potential communication differences of men and women.

                                                 AT HOME WITH MAMMA

In the video, we see a talk show and there are a mother and a son, Vinni, who is 27. The speaker asks him a question : How is the feeling living at home in 27 years old ? As a response, he says that he like living at home and it is like his palace as he has everything he wants at home. Then he continues that her mother houses him so much that she cuts his hair and cooks his meals. After that, the speaker asks whether such things shameful or not for a boy who is 27 years old and Vinni responses negatively; that is, he states that he is not embarrassed of it. By the way, he points out that he has a master degree on teaching, and then they speak about it. Then, when the mother asked if she fears for harming him or keeping him so close, she says that she does not intervene with him. Then she adds he wakes up in the morning, eat breakfast, works in the office everyday and she goes on explaining. Therefore, as you can see this video is a good example of the contentment of living at home with mamma. We do not only say just by word but also see the live example of this argument here, so it is beneficial to understand the advantages of it with the help of an eye who is experiencing this.
JOURNAL ENTRY 5 ( ARTICLE )

                                      AT HOME WITH MAMMA

The text ''At home with mamma'' points out that staying in the family nest is a matter of good sense and good cooking for many young Italian men and it exemplifies this fact by giving place to an Italian man's opinion in this topic. The man, Glanluca Vıntı, says life at home is easier. I agree with him because I am of the opinion that living at home with your family is much more comfortable and those living with their families at home have much more regular life compared to those living alone or so-called having a free life without family. Now I will take one of the advantages of living at home with family in hand. The most prominent advantage is undoubtedly the comfortableness of it in terms of nutrition. If you live with your family, your meal is generally ready when you come back home from work and you eat proper foods, get enough vitamins and nutrients thanks to your mom as she wants you eat healthily and bethinks yourself always in all aspects. As a result, you feel comfortable as you have a healthy body and clear mind, and these affect your life in a positive way. From my experiences, I can show an example of this. For instance, if I do not eat fresh foods and do not get enough nutrients and vitamins; that is to say, if I eat junk foods or consume too much caffeine, I generally become a bit nervous. In short, when we take into account just the nutrition advantage of living at home with family we can understand how much easy it is.

                                                         GLOBAL WARMING

This video shares some essential information about global warming with us. In the beginning, it explicitly says that there is something really called global warming. The original words in the video that say this are : ''In the last century the planet's temperature has increased unusually fast. Scientists believe that it is human activity that drives the temperature up.'' Then, it continues with the possible reasons of it and says that ever since the industrial revolution began, factories, power plants and eventually cars using fuels such as coal have released huge amount of carbon dioxide and the other gases into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases trapped near the Earth create naturally occuring process called greenhouse effect. Then, it explains the process by saying : ''The greenhouse effect begins with the sun and the energy radiates to the Earth. The Earth and the atmosphere absorb some of the energy; and other rest is radiated back to the space. Naturally ocurring gases in the atmosphere trap some of this energy and reflect it back in the Earth''. After that, it adds the belief of the scientists about this topic, and tells that scientists now believe greenhouse effect has been intensified by the extra greenhouse gases that humans have released. Lastly, it continues with the evidences for global warming and explains these evidences. For instance, it mentiones about recent warm years and says that scientists record that 1998 was the warmest year of the Earth history, and then it goes on clarifying the evidences.
As for my opinion, I can say that I believe these in reasons and evidences because I have been searching on this sucject for a long time and I reach to these conclusions like scientists. When it comes to the video, I have to say that I really like it so much since it explains the reasons and effects on the base of rationality and with proofs, and I believe that you probably like it :) Enjoy it !

                                                      LIVING IN DENİZLİ

My hometown Denizli has so many great advantages for its habitants and is a really wonderful city to live in for various reasons. First of all, it is located in the Aegean Region of Turkey, so the fertile soils of Aegean Region and Denizli make it an ideal place to live in. That is why, the city has been occupied since prehistoric times. Because most of the people in the Aegean Region support their livelihood by making agriculture, fertility is very important. Even when we look at the meaning of Denizli, we can understand the fertility of the soil. Although the town is not on the coast, the city is called Denizli, which means 'seaside' in Turkey, but I think, the reason for this is that there are several rivers and lakes around it, and the name refers to the abundance of underground water sources. Secondly, one of the most important things that attracts people to live in Denizli is its climate. Since its climate is neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer, people in Denizli can enjoy the warm climate, but it is a fact that it might be too hot in summer; that is, the temperature can go up 44 Centigrade. Thus, even breathing gets more difficult. Thirdly, there are several places in Denizli that attract people from all over the world on the ground that these places can cure ill people. For example, the hot springs of Pamukkale and Karahayıt. These natural hot springs heal people, so lots of people come to and settle in Denizli only to be cured through these hot springs. To conclude, Denizli's rich soils, climate and remedial places are the reasons for people to choose Denizli to live in.

                                          THE EFFECTS OF THE INTERNET

In this video, some types of questions regarding the internet are asked to children and the kids answer these questions and I will evaluate both the benefits and the drawbacks of the internet for children by taking into consideration the questions and the answers of the children. However, I will not handle all of the questions, just two of them we will analyse together. Among the questions, there are questions like ''What are the benefits of spending time online?'' and '' And the drawbacks?'', so we will discuss these two questions and look them from children's own perspectives. When the benefits of the internet are asked to them, they generally give the same answer. They say that thanks to internet, one can talk to his/her friends, keep in touch with them and meet new people, and so have lots of fun. As for the drawbacks of it, they say that those who use the internet get addicted to it and have less of social life although they talk to people via internet and they also say that people do not do what they have to do because they cannot give up it; they cannot get rid of it and also they cannot keep healthy by sitting in front of a computer, so they need to go outside and do sports. In short, we can see that there are not only  advanages but also disadvantages of internet for children, so it should be used carefully and not excessively.

                                       THE EFFECTS OF THE INTERNET

In today's world, people spend most of their time in front of the internet, so when we look at its impacts, we can divide them into three. That is, we can say there are three main effects of spending time on the internet. One adverse effect is an increase in the number of isolated people. Because the internet is a huge library, the media tool and the online government, and provides people with online market and online banking, people can find whatever they seek on the internet. As a result, they become dependent on the internet by spending too much time in front of it, so in this regard , they become isolated from the society. Another effect of the internet, the rising number of conscious and cultured people, is positive. People improve themselves culturally since one can reach all types of current information by means of various resources, essays and comments on the internet, and conduct a wide range of research. Thus, we learn a lot of things from the internet, from academic topics to private lifes of the well-known. As for the last and positive effect of the internet, we can meet with different people from all over the world, and keep constant communication with them, so we can learn various cultures, languages, and our horizon broadens. In conclusion, as the internet has both negative and positive effects on our lives, it can be said that it is benefical provided that it is not used excessively.

EDUCATION GIVEN IN ENGLISH IN TURKEY

As education has been given in English in most of the educational institutions in Turkey, the system has become controversial for the last two decades. I am of the opinion that English education should be abolished in Turkey for several reasons. First of all, in education given in primary language , it is natural that students' perception speed is higher than education given in second language, which means there is a loss in perception in the second language. Since one can understand something in his native language better, the possibilty of understanding of people decreases in the second language, so the success of the students also decrease accordingly. Secondly, education in second language leads to one's alienation to his primary language, customs or society by using English in daily life too much. Even those who live in a foreign country for a short period of time get used to the culture and life style of that country, so they are becoming more and more aliens to their own country and culture day by day. Likewise, if the education in English is taken into consideration, the situation is the same; that is, students get used to using English in schools and then they start to implement this to their daily life, so they are alienated to their own language and culture. To summarize, because of the fact that the language of the education in some of the educational institutions in Turkey is English, students' success may decrease and they may be alienated to their own language and culture.

REVISED JOURNAL SET 2( MULTI-MEDIA ENTRY)

In this video, there is a debate over whether cell phones should be brought to school or not. While the guy in the middle and lady on the right stand up that there is absolutely no need for students to take their cell phones to school at all, the lady on the left supports that students should be allowed to take their mobile phones to school. She says how they going to get in touch someone if something bad happens on the walk home or on the way to school, so it will be much safer for the kids carrying their cell phones with them to school. As a response to her saying, the guy says that every teacher has cell phones and if god forbid in case of an emergency the teachers will inform students' parents. He thinks such a thing would be a distraction for students. As for the lady on the right, she supports what the guy told and thinks it would be a big problem. Also, the guy indicates that they can bring the cell phones to school, but they should keep them in lockers till the end of the day. Moreover, he says the kids have not cell phones, they have smart phones and during classes they log on facebook and tweeter, download and google something, and surf on the internet. However, the lady sitting on the left states that she just thinks they should bring them to school for emergency purposes, but not use them during lessons freely.
I liked this video having a debate over use of cell phones in schools as it explains all possible aspects of it both in a positive and negative way. That is, these people argue about why cell phones are necessary and unnecessary by giving rational reasons and examples; thus, they throw light on this matter and unclutter the confusion on people's minds. As for my opinion, I am of the opinion that they should take their mobile phones to school in case there happens an emergency situation, but they should either give them authorities while entering the school and then take back while leaving or they should keep them in lockers during classes.

REVISED JOURNAL SET 2(REFLECTION ENTRY)

These days, more and more students bring their cell phones to school and it has been a controversial topic recently. I believe that students should carry mobile phones in case some bad things happen there, but I object to using phones at school particularly in the classroom. Many students go to and from school without their parents and they might need their mobile phones in the event of an emergency. Therefore, students should be allowed to carry their cell phones with them to school, but at the entrance of the school, they should be made to submit them to authorities and while leaving from the school, their cell phones should be given them so that they can call their parents in case of something bad on the way to home. I said that they should leave their mobile phones while entering the school because in an educational institution whatever disrupts or spoils the class should be removed out of the classroom. In this regard, nothing can be more disruptive during a lesson than the sound of a mobile phone ringing or playing an annoying tune. Moreover, there is one more point to underline that students who have mobile phone in class do not pay attention to the lesson. Instead of focusing on the lesson, they make something on the phone such as playing games, sending messages, and surfing on the internet during the lesson, which prevents them from getting what is told about that course. On the whole, cell phones may be brought to school, but should not be used during lessons.

I had written about inferiority complex towards Western Countries in reflection entry of my journal set 3, but when I search for videos related to this topic I could not find any video about it, so I chose to issue this video which is a movie trailer and I wanted to comment on it because I really love this movie so much. It was a long time ago that I watched it, but if I watched it today again, I am sure I would taken the same delight now. I remember that I really enjoyed while watching it. Thus, I strongly recommend this movie to almost everyone.

JOURNAL SET 3 ( REFLECTION ENTRY )

                         INFERIORITY COMPLEX TOWARDS WESTERN COUNTRIES

As everbody knows, in our country there is an inferiority complex towards Western Countries. We imitate them, but they just have a more highly developed economy than ours, and owing to this, they can achieve what they want in every field, like technology. Because of this, we exaggerate Europeans. One solution to this problem is to work hard and to get educated. In other words, instead of praising and imitating them, we must work without being daunted to achieve what they did because it is a fact that some engineers who have created wonderful machines in European countries are from Turkey; that is, we can make the same with our engineers in our country if we work with discipline. Another solution to the problem is not to believe in everthing in the newspapers, magazines and on the Tv. Owing to the fact that in the newspapers and magazines, the life of Europeans is depicted as if it is so entertaining and vivid, everbody assumes that it is better than ours and starts to envy them or admire their culture and life style. However, there are lots of things which are not mentioned in the magazines or on the Tv and generally they are nasty aspects of European life. To sum up, the problem is not difficult to overcome if both of these solutions are applied.
